The CNMlab – the think tank of the Centre national de la musique – unveils its first long-term research publication, a “long wave” titled ” Scenarios Plotting Out the Transition (SPOT)”.

SPOT “ Scenarios Plotting Out the Transition “ by The CNMlab

SPOT is the first forward-looking study to imagine the future of the French music industry in the face of climate and environmental challenges. Based on a rigorous methodology, we elaborated, with researchers and professionals, detailed scenarios to assess the music ecosystem’s adaptation to these stakes by 2050 :

  • Scenario 1: “Close to me” (The Cure) – Frugality
  • Scenario 2: “Come together” (The Beatles) – Sobriety and efficiency
  • Scenario 3: “Computer Love” (Kraftwerk) – Polarization and efficiency
  • Scenario 4: “Harder Better Faster Stronger” (Daft Punk) – Dominations

These scenarios bring out elements that would be important to integrate into a long-term vision of the ecosystem and help identify the issues that policy should address and that can be formulated as follow :

  • How could the music ecosystem and its business models be transformed ?
  • How could the governance of the music ecosystem and cultural rights be reshaped ?
  • What work could be done on the imaginary around transformation ?

The study was released in French in June, and its translation in English in mid-September (for Reeperbahn).
